GREAT books @ ~ ![]() The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Delois Wattles, Judith Powell How our reality is manifested is normally never questioned. For those who want to know why and how, this book is the answer. In 1985 I read "The Science of Getting Rich" and my life was forever changed. Not only were my questions answered about why things are the way they are, but I now had the instruction manual! I learned that, "What I think is created" and how to use this to better my life. By following the simple instructions, anyone can create the life of his or her dreams. To share this book with someone is the most thoughtful and loving gift one can give. Be sure to give it to yourself first. - FRDMChoice@AOL.com from Phoenix, Arizona , April 11, 1999 ~ ![]() Leadership and the New Science : Learning About Organization from an Orderly Universe by Margaret J. Wheatley A superb new direction in thinking about organizations I noticed that the other reviewers make much about Wheatley's comments about quantum mechanics vis-a-vis management, but little about her much more relevant comparisons to chaotic behavior. Chaos requires basically two things- at least three variables and a process of feedback. I guarantee that both conditions are met in business. She has hit the mark about why things go wrong in the way they do, despite (or perhaps because of) what managers do to try to prevent them. - charles spencer cspencer@ntr.net from Louisville, KY , February 18, 1999 ~ ![]() The Tao of Physics : An Exploration of the Parallels Between Modern Physics and Eastern Mysticism by Fritjof Capra Excellent, marvellous, unbelievable - rodin_lara@hotmail.com from Istanbul,Turkey , March 16, 1999 This is a wonderfully profound book. The thesis is that quantum mechanics were understood by Eastern Religions (e.g., The sutras of Buhhda, the Upanishads , etc.) 2000 years ago. And that reality is much closer to the Taoist view than the western view. It is extremely profound. Capra explains many basic atomic physics concepts clearly. It does require some discipline to read all 341 pages. It is worth it.- A reader from Highland Park, IL. , January 2, 1999 ~ ![]() Cartoon Guide to Physics by Larry Gonick I love Cartoon Guides! Larry Gonick is amazing. I've read a number of his "cartoon guides" and this one didn't let me down. I happened to read it while taking a highschool physics class. It was great--I kept thinking "Oh! *Now* I get it!" I think that this is an excellent supplement to any "official" textbook or class: the textbook will give you the math problems, etc., and the Cartoon Guide to Physics will allow you to understand the concepts behind them- A reader from Anchorage, Alaska, USA , May 30, 1998 ~ ![]() Cartoon Guide to the Computer by Larry Gonick Learning can't be any funnier or more creative - A reader from Mtn.View, Ca. , March 3, 1998 ~ ![]() Pythagoras' Trousers : God, Physics, and the Gender Wars by Margaret Wertheim As a female engineer -- somewhat cynical about organised religion and having experienced the maleness of scientific academia and profession -- I found this to be one of the most interesting, entertaining, and intelligent books I have read in a long time. Firstly, it presents a concise and very readable account of the illuminating history and sociology of science, mathematics and engineering (to which their students sadly gain far too little exposure). Secondly, the argument adds a new dimension and depth (for some reason hidden until now!) to our understanding of the perceived barriers facing women to the study and practice of science, mathematics, and engineering. This issue has gained increasing attention from universities and professional institutions, who at least claim to be attempting to remedy the situation. All our attempts would be wiser for a better understanding of the deep-seated cultural and institutional bases of this bias, and for a better appreciation of the significant but largely unsung contributions of women to our scientific progress. Concerning the debate about the "feminisation" of science: the author's point-of-view is not a new one, but she certainly argues the case with more vigour and valid evidence than previous accounts I have read. As a fresh and enlightened contribution to an ongoing debate, I think this book deserves a place in the literature. Credit where credit's due to the author for her hard work and boldness! - Gina Meibusch (gina.meibusch@eudoramail.com) from Sydney, Australia , January 6, 1999 ~ 101 Physics Tricks : Fun Experiments With Everyday Materials by Terry Cash Why Toast Lands Jelly-Side Down : Zen and the Art of Physics Demonstrations by Robert Ehrlich ~ ![]() Albert Einstein (Impact Books- Biographies Series) by Jacob Goldberg A portrait of one of the world's greatest scientists discusses Albert Einstein's theories and their radical influence on modern science, the origins and development of his work, and the political changes that affected him over the course of his life. ~ ![]() 101 Ways to Promote Your Website by Susan Sweeney "101 Ways.." Proves that you can never know everything I have traveled across the USA for years consulting with major corporations on how to improve their web sites. After reading Susan Sweeneys novel 101 Ways.. I have come to the conclusion that maybe I should do some more research. The book definitely proves that Susan knows what she is talking about. One of the finest Internet books Ive read in a while. After reading this book you could definitely take your web site to another level! - A reader from Washington, D.C. , April 17, 1999 Great help for someone new to the Internet Having only just "gone Online" recently, our company was not too experienced with websites. We found this book to be a great resource for helping us to make the most of our presence on the Internet, Very easy to follow with lots of great ideas - A reader from Nova Scotia, Canada , March 11, 1999. ~ |
